Period 342

Filed under: Updates — CanonRap @ 11:17 am

Well, Negi almost lasted the entire chapter against Eva. That’s not bad, isn’t it?

* I lol’d when Negi freaked out as soon as Eva said she won’t hold back. Even Eva looked surprised when he just got blown away.

* How did it blow his shirt off without affecting his pants? The behaviour of clothes in Negima is probably more unrealistic than the magic which doesn’t exist.

* Eva used Magia Erebea! The names of both the spell she used to power up and its armament form are in Japanese, so we’ll have to wait until the tankoubon, I guess.

* As was already spoiled by the pics, Al reveals that Negi is indeed immortal — specifically, how a vampire can be ‘ageless’ (never grows old) and ‘deathless’. So yes, he really did go through “death and rebirth” through Magia Erebea… just according to the lexicon.

PS: Oh, and Asuna will be entering the fray next chapter. Good timing too, considering Eva pretty much had Negi beat by the end of the chapter.

  1. So… Negi’s going to have the body of a kid forever now?

    • At least Ayaka will be happy… ^_^:

In any case; I’ve said in other venues that thew whole situation is a bit messed up/out of order.

Sure; Negi finding his dad is important to HIM, but I don’t think it’s as important as saving the Mundus Magicus like he did at the end of the Magic World arc.

Oh? Maybe if Negi doesn’t save/stop the final big bad, the world or both worlds will be destroyed?

A repeated plot, or repeated plot x2 worlds is just as boring, no matter how it is dressed up.

  2. is the last lesson and negi cant even figth on par with eva, and negi dont have time to train anymore so in the final fight whit the lifemaker is going to be another bullshit plot wining whit the power of love of him and asuna like last time this manga keep getting worst.

    Comment by drake — October 23, 2011 @ 12:48 pm

    • I consider ‘the motives of the characters actually matter’ to be somewhat less bullshit than ‘oh, yeah, I became the most powerful person on the planet in a year. No big.’

      • Getting stronger through busting your ass is hardly bullshit. Sure, the time frame is shorter than normal, but Negi is a genius and also works extremely hard for his power.

Winning simply through “the power of love and friendship” is pure bullshit and is a cliche that needs to die.

        • But Negi didn’t bust his ass. Rakan told him straight up it would take him decades of experience and training to become a mage who could fight someone like Fate. He cheated and took the first forbidden, easy path to power he could, and got for a few days of being beaten by copy-Eva what he’d have spent half his life acquiring otherwise, if he could have it at all.

And that I appreciate. Negima is still full of bullshit like Negi picking up his kenpo well enough to fight the likes of Setsuna in a few months, but at least they depict getting all the way to the top as something the main character, totally unrealistic comics-style ‘genius’ or not, would have to dedicate his whole life to if Rakan didn’t happen to have Eva’s old copy of ‘ultimate power for dummies’ lying around.

        • The time period was way short due to Negi being a genius I agree, but he still worked his ass off during that time and even risked his life and soul at times. And magia ereaba wasn’t an instant powerup either. Negi had to spend time customizing it and choosing the right spells to install based on his magic style. Magia ereaba is a powerup that requires you to put work and thought into it in order to make it something useful to you. Besides, there’s still the fact that Negi still has a good way to go to become the strongest character in the manga even with the power he has gained.

Even if the time period is much shorter, training for a victory is still legitimate unlike “we believe we can win problem solved.”

Also, if you want to talk about characters being handed power by the plot, then Asuna would be a prime suspect there.

  3. Of course Negi can’t match Eva if she uses ME as well. Negi’s baseline is still lower than Eva’s after all.

Is it going to be Asuna + Negi vs Eva or just Asuna?

    Comment by IT — October 23, 2011 @ 1:02 pm

  4. Well, if Asuna join won’t Eva lose just like the mage of beginning?

  6. i am guessing that jac is there the same way al is in there., about asuna + negi versus the lifemaker the thing is that they alredy defeat him that way, do we really need a repetition of that? and since ist look like is the only exciting thing left in the manga and the only battle left, it would suck if it turn in a battle of feelings and that they can beat him beacuse nothing defeat the power of true pactio partner, think of how cool were star wars if in the battle whit dark bader lea stuck there holding the light saber whit luke.

    Comment by drake — October 23, 2011 @ 3:09 pm

    • I was forgetting about the World Tree, but even still, Al could never move except when the World Tree is full of power.

      Comment by AstroNerdBoy — October 23, 2011 @ 5:01 pm

      • Maybe the after effects of the battle left a two-way magically charged stable gate in Mahora, or something. Akamatsu really needs to start explaining these things better. Between loose ends such as to what the hell happened to the Gravekeeper, the Fatettes and Anya, or to the friggin’ Lifemaker (is he loose, sealed back in, or what?), I’m getting the impression he just can’t balance the vital info anymore.

Also, not digging the twist of Negi being a Shota forever. Unless he churns age pills at all waking hours, this only will make any relationship he ends up with eternally CREEPY.

        Comment by OverMaster — October 23, 2011 @ 9:52 pm

        • Hey! Straight Shota isn’t creepy! It’s ADORABLE. I loved that new twist.

I do agree, though, that the Magic World Arc ended in a hyper-rush. I wonder if it had anything to do with the movie…

Now, question – If Negi’s immortal now, he’ll either end up with Eva or Chachamaru… Or do you think the girls will become Eternal Schoolgirls as well? Maybe through the Pactios? I think no one ever Pactio’ed with a immortal before (Well, there was Al, but he’s the Minister), and Negi is more than able to bend the Pactio System over and fuck it, so it’s a possibility…

  7. so, we’ll finally get to see asuna kick ass after so long……

  8. Pffft, Takamichi and Kurt beatin’ each other up 🙂

My only real question about Negi’s revival was when it happened, exactly – Was it supposed to have been when Dynamis shadow-punched straight through him and he went nuts, or when he petrified? >_>

When Dynamis smacked him, he was in Lightning form – so it could’ve passed through harmlessly (sorta), but disturbed him enough to drive him berserk. When he petrified, he… petrified, which has been shown to not be lethal, normally. Of course, Negi wasn’t petrified by any normal spell, but by use of Magia Erebea, and then also broke himself out of his stone coccoon. I’ve no idea if that counts as death and revival or not though >_>

    Comment by Carect — October 24, 2011 @ 1:11 pm

    • Seeing as the ‘cocoon’ bit was used as the background when Al explained it, that seems to be the point in time he was referring to.

  9. Hey Hey, I’m more concerned with Eva’s words, she said to Asuna, consider this your parting gift. That means she is dying? Losing her fighting abilities? I wanna know! xD

    Comment by Mr_ShiNi — October 24, 2011 @ 11:35 pm

    • probaly she is sealed again, so negi and asuna are turning in separated lovers, so pretty much she alredy win negi. we alredy past for the whole arc of saving asuna to past for the same shit again, this manga keep getting worst.

      Comment by drake — October 25, 2011 @ 4:57 am

      • I dunno about that, I mean we don’t know yet. Either way I’m having fun with Negima.

        Comment by Mr_ShiNi — October 25, 2011 @ 5:21 am

      • I think the sealing option is likely, or also an immortal angle or maybe Asuna stay in MM, can’t wait for next chapter. drake: You don’t seem to have much to say beside “OmG this manga suCkS!”. We got it already, you don’t need to spam, just stop reading it if you hate it.
