Sigh. Okay, two things:
1) It’s the manga that started calling them the “Fates”. It’s okay to be a stickler, but one really should straighten out what exactly the issue being stickled to is.
2) You want the “proper spelling”? The term isn’t Dunamis or Dynamis. It’s Δύναμις. I used “u” to render the upsilon because it’s closer to how it’s pronounced, just like how I don’t render the spells as “He Astrape Hyper Oyranoy Mega Dynamene” or “Oyrania Phlogosis” or “Dios Tykos” or “Ho Monolithos Kion Toy Haidoy“. And I’m pretty sure most of the English fanbase don’t, either.
How Diarium Ejus latinised a Greek term doesn’t invalidate “Dunamis” as a spelling. Japanese and German names have been rendered in Latin before, and I’m guessing people don’t generally write their names as “Negius” or “Goedel” or “Ajase Jue”.
…Sorry for all that. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.
Quintum is utterly wailing on Fate, even pulling the same trick as Negi (attacking so rapidly that he leaves after-images in multiple places – or it’s already lightning clones at this point, bit hard to tell) and hitting him with some kind of projectile barrage attack. Quintum starts trash-talking (politely):
To be a guardian of the world, granted with vast amounts of mana and combat ability from our Lord,
And yet barely able to even counterattack against me, someone of the same model… this is pathetic. You truly are a defective unit.
I shall remove you by force.
Nodoka wakes up and shakily walks up to Natsumi, who seems to be panicking even more than the girl who just spent the last 4 chapters KO’d.
Meanwhile, Fate (still getting electrocuted by a lightning clone) gets a little flashback to his last fight with Rakan… especially what Rakan said about “truth” and “meaning”.
The “main” (probably?) Quintum prepares a spell.
This is the end.
轟き渡る雷の神槍 todoroki wataru ikadzuchi no shinsou
“Divine Spear of Thunderous Lightning”
(The same spell as he used against Kaede, but apparently Akamatsu didn’t bother with a Latin spell name like Quartum’s Gladius Divinus.)
Quintum turns back to Nodoka and Natsumi in order to retrieve the Key and Asuna, because the Rewrite would be affected otherwise, but the smokes clear… and Fate is still standing, holding the spear in his hand (just like Rakan!).
He stopped the magical armament possessing the greatest penetrating power in the lightning system?
Then, take this – !!!
Quintum reveals himself to be of the same mold as Quartum – easily provoked. He charges Fate with a punch, only to get cross-countered.
Even now, I do not understand his words, but,
I do understand, that your fist is not as heavy as his.
Why is it, Quintum? Why is your fist, so light?
…Do you mean, that I… am the same?
Quintum attacks anyway, and Fate takes him down with the simplest movement, ripping off his right arm and blowing him away.
Fate turns to Nodoka, who leaps for the Key, but Fate raises his hand and it goes flying back to him.
“You will hand over the Princess, Miyazaki Nodoka.”
“Fate-san, why did you fight with your comrade… no, why did you save us?”
“…I didn’t have any intentions of saving you.”
” – Then why? Your actions are contradictory.”
“…What a nuisance. Truly, I should have completely turned you to stone at some point.
The plan will be accomplished. By my own hand.”
Meanwhile… mood whiplash back to Mahora! (Oh god, I’m going to have a hell of a time translating this.)
The World Tree is now glowing enough that Ayaka and co. and see it from the plane as they approach Mahora… students are on the streets taking pictures, and some familiar faces are discussing it.
Eva is bothered, and with good reason:
Geez… this is not a joke.
If that thing discharges, this whole Academy will get blown off the map… if that happens, I’ll be living in the ruins. Since I can’t leave the Academy because of the curse.
Good grief… just what is that disciple of mine doing when his Master is in a pinch… well, I suppose he is shouldering a lot.
Someone appears behind her…
“No… Sensei is doing well. His hand, has reached the back of the father of the past.”
“…You. Why do you know about the other side?”
“My older sister is at that place. I can see Sensei and the others through my sister.”
“I see… That’s convenient. Well? What’s the situation?”
“Your disciple is arriving at the final battle, with the fate of the land at stake.”
“Oh? Heheheh… Well well. It seems that embarking on the journey has been worthwhile for my lovely little disciple.”
Far exceeding the Master’s expectations, the last battle is before Negi’s very eyes!!
(No, I don’t think the last battle is literally the next chapter. Anyway, no break next week. See you all Saturday… and wish me luck on translating those last few pages. ^^;;)
