305 – the monster in me

Filed under: Updates — CanonRap @ 7:55 am

It’s like the Gateport again.

As expected, the combined Magicus fleet is pretty much completely powerless against the summoned demons issuing from the Palace – except for Takamichi:

From Gateau Kagura Vandenberg himself…

Shichijou Daisou Muonken!!
七条大槍 無音拳!!
Seven Great Spears, Soundless Fist!!

“There’s another enemy group… due portside, coming from above! Two thousand units!”

Senjou Senzoku Muonken!!
千条閃鏃 無音拳!!
Thousand Flashing Arrows, Soundless Fist!!

Kurt reports that the situation, while not in their favour, is holding up for now, but it’s taking them everything just to hold back the demons moving towards from Neo Ostia. At the same time, the ‘light’ at the Palace is beginning to grow exponentially, and the concentration of mana is increasing at an abnormal pace.

What all that means is, basically, that the ritual is moving into its final stages – three hours left until the world ends. Takamichi wanted to take a ship himself and help stop the ritual, but as Kurt points out, considering the situation, he can’t leave the fleet to fend for itself.

Negi-kun… though you said that you’d be the one to follow in Nagi’s footsteps…

I’m sorry, but… the time when I must entrust everything to you has come sooner than I thought…!

Back with Team Kota – they’ve reached the room where the prisoners are supposedly held, but they have no way to be sure, and the room is covered with a Sealing Lock with multiple magic shields. Yue starts cracking the defenses while under Natsumi’s Artifact, and finds four different types on three different layers: alarms, paralysis poisons, illusionary seals, and bombs.

With the door unlocked, Kota is about to open the door – and out come Anya’s Flame Buster.

After a celebratory reunion with a bewildered Yue, Anya explains to them that Asuna had already been taken by ‘him’. Natsumi gets confused this time by the whole “Asuna” thing.

Back to Team Negi and Dunamis – Kaede manages to impale him with her shuriken, again using her chains to create a bind:

Tenma Fukumetsu, Bakusa Chimoujin!!
天魔覆滅 縛鎖地網陣!!
Mara’s Ruination, Chaining Net Ground Ward!!

Negi follows up with an Incendium Gehennae on the trapped Dunamis (first time the spell’s actually been used, by the way.)

Kaede tells Negi to go on ahead while she takes care of Dunamis – Negi summons his staff and tells Nodoka, Chisame, and Shiori to get on, as they’re all going to Fate together.

(And as justification for why Nodoka doesn’t just read Dunamis’ mind for the whereabouts of the Great Grand Master Key, Negi says that since Dunamis had already fought her once, he probably has ways of countering Diarium Ejus now.)

But before they can get anywhere, Dunamis’ disembodied fist comes flying through a crack in space and blows Negi to the ground (since dodging by himself would be a bad move for the three girls behind him)

Shiori manages to land with Chiu and Nodoka safely, but Negi is knocked out of Raiten Taisou with blood pouring from his shoulder. Before Konoka can heal him, he Chiu yells, “Wait!” and Negi starts turning into his demon form…

Well, that… went nowhere fast. They got Anya, but Asuna isn’t there (as was probably expected) which means it’s up to Negi… who barely manages two steps before getting knocked down by Dunamis again. But considering he’s gettin’ his demon on again, I hope a Dunamis defeat comes shortly so they can get back to the business at hand.

  1. Yeah, figures that Asuna wouldn’t be there. Akamatsu-sensei is going to keep her away for a while to come, I’m afraid.

  2. “I’m sorry, but the princess is in another castle.”

  3. When Anya says taken by him, is she referring to Fate or somebody else?

  4. The text wasn’t specific, just “him”. Would be Fate logically, though.

  5. We saw Fate in chapter 303, and unless he was keeping Asuna in his pocket, she wasn’t with him. Maybe he was just patrolling the area or something. Or Chibi-mage went and took Asuna before Fate arrived there, though I don’t see what could be achieved by this.
