298 – this hand of mine

Filed under: Updates — CanonRap @ 2:31 pm

Thanks to quigonkenny for the idea.

It burns with awesome power.

(Based on the Friday spoilers. Updated for full chapter.)

There’s more than just one future!

Picking up from 297… or rather, 295, Chisame and Makie are apparently the only ones still standing, everyone else being unconscious and trapped within Kosmo Entelekheia.

“You’re supposed to be the professional one here, damn it! Wake up!”

“It’s understandable.

The more dissatisfaction one has – the larger the hole in one’s heart is – the more impossible it becomes to escape from this sweet dream… ‘Kosmo Entelekheia.'”

“This… this is Kosmo Entelekheia…?”

“It is not the true ritual -pyo. The true ritual will take even the flesh into a spirit world, and bestow upon it eternity.

By the way, because of the mentioned characteristic, the ritual is ineffective against those who lead real, productive lives.

Yes, Chisame, self-professed shut-in, is goes all wtf at this.

“…It’s a slang to denote people whose real life is fulfilling. Typically, that means people whose lives are filled with relationships with lovers, family members and friends; people who have rich lives outside of the Net. Well, the definition is pretty vague –

– and I don’t know about Sasaki, but I’m different, right?! Everyday, I shut myself in and turn into the perfect netizen who never leaves her monitor! I represent ‘unproductive life’!”

(…)

“…Only you yourself believes so. Don’t you find your life surprisingly fulfilling -pyo?”

No… no way… me, on the same level as Sasaki… that can’t be right… this has been a trap…

“H-Heey, Chisame-chan? Is it that much of a shock? What she said? And that was kind of rude…

A breakdown in negotiations:

She’s not the real Zazie Rainyday – right?!

“Sceptrum Virtuale
(King’s Sceptre of Power)!”

“Liberum Lemniscus
(Unbounded Ribbon)!

Frango Stipes
(Pulverising Club)!

Bombes Globus
(Bombing Ball)!”

“Hell, we can’t do this! The two of us just isn’t enough!”

“My ribbon is really handy, you know!”

“Oh, is that right!”

Of course, the girls believe that a certain someone will definitely come save them…

“Sorry to keep you waiting.

(…)

Nice to meet you… Zazie-san’s sister.”

The ensuing explosions bring them back to the Palace, and Zazie’s “old acquaintance” is particularly surprised:

“Negi Springfield…? How… even if it was just a replica, how did he break out of Kosmo Entelekheia…?”

(You know, the more I look at him… I guess it’s him? – the more ‘he’ resembles Zecht. Especially that close-up that shows the inside of his hood.)

Back to Zazie:

“I see… that sister of mine guided you, Negi-sensei, didn’t she -pyo?”

“Yes, it was thanks to Zazie-san. And I… no matter what, I have to meet with him. Fate Averruncus.”

The battle between Zazie and Negi continues:

“…Why do I have to be stopped?”

“This world will be destroyed eventually -pyo. You know this.

Much of the 1,200,000,000 citizens of the Magic World, caught in its collapse, will perish. Even those who somehow survive, left behind on the barren wastes, will throw themselves into a centuries-long conflict with the humans of Earth, for the sake of their own survival -pyo. A tragedy, is it not -pyo?

For the sake of averting this tragedy, there is no other way but to follow Fate’s plan, and seal this entire world within Kosmo Entelekheia.

I am neither from the Magic World nor the Old World -pyo. But, as is the duty of the strong, I cannot simply watch this unprecedented danger unfold -pyo.

I had monitored you, praying that the son of the hero who saved this world would not attempt such reckless behaviour, but… how unfortunate -pyo.”

(Makie: Not from either worlds…? Who are you, Zazie-san…?)

Negi rejects…

“Why…

Why must you assume that that is the only future there can be?”

“…What are you saying -pyo? (…) That is the one, true, unavoidable future -pyo. According to the calculations of my research institute, the collapse will begin in nine years and six months at the soonest -pyo.”

(…)

“That’s good to hear.

The only problem was time. And nine years and six months is more than enough.

“What…?”

“Fate Averruncus! You’re watching, aren’t you?! Listen to me! I will fight you just as you wished! But for now, listen!

Are you hearing me, Fate? The reason for all this is the future of what is supposed to be the unavoidable ‘collapse of the Magic World’.

I,

have the means to stop it.

(…)

So just wait where you are, Fate. I will make you understand, even if I have to do it by force!”

And Fate’s reply…

“…

You disappoint me… with your nonsense, Negi-kun.

Did Negi just proclaim his intent to befriend?

And did he just totally piss Fate off by rejecting his reality and substituting his own?

Well, anyway. Other stuff…

I think this chapter implicitly concludes that Zazie really is a demon, considering she is not from the Old or New World.

Of course, the tangled mess that is Zazie and her ‘sister’ is still intact, now with the added string of some sort of “research institute”…?

And finally… what the hell is Negi talking about?

  3. So that’s what Chao was preventing…

They humans somehow managed to survive on Mars, only for the rest of humanity to declare war on them.

  4. “I am neither from the Magic World nor the Old World”

    Demon confirmed?

Also, major props for throwing in Nanoha and Mythbusters references a breath apart.

Hope we don’t get a dues ex machina Mundus Magicus fix.

  5. Does anyone else feel the sheer length of Negi’s hair now is insane? It was pretty crazy when it was SS3 lengths, sure, but now it looks like it’s twice as long as he is tall. Not to mention it probably moves according to his own will >_>

Where was the Mythbusters reference, by the way?

  6. Ahhh, nevermind, I sees it. Thought it was something in the chapter’s text itself >_>

  7. So if Negim is Male Nanoha I hope Fate is the Fate who would ended up alive. He’s a great villain. Plus I always loved his pissed faces

  8. Still don’t get what Zazie’s sister say that put Chisame down. Since only people with productive lives can’t be affected, is she saying something like “so, you wasn’t affected because you have no life”? o_o

    Comment by Blogima — August 1, 2010 @ 11:56 am

  9. @Blogima: Its either what you are saying or else it means that Chisame & Makie are “presently living the life which there heart desired”.

In simple words (based on what i understood), the conditions for going into the dimension of Zazie’s sisters artifact is that only people who have a unfulfilled desires in there heart, are the once drawn into it (from which it is alot difficult to escape as the desire gets stronger). The only way to escape is to believe in themselves and have that little bit of courage.

But if a people doesn’t have any desires in there heart, the people won’t get drawn into this world. Like the example of Makie whose character has been shown to not have any hidden desires or worries in her life & lives it as she likes (the only one worry & desire she had was also accomplished by her).

But in Chisame’s case this thing gets a bit twisted. Her reaction in the whole story till now was that she doesn’t like the concept of magic. People would have thought that her hidden desire would be the life she had before she knew about the existence of magic.

But it seems that deep inside her heart, she had a desire to have a life which is filled with excitement & adventure (and not the life she had before). She in her heart has already accepted the magical world as part of her life & doesn’t want to give it up, which would be a real shock to her when she realises it.

  13. @Yami[Len]: Fixed, thanks for the headsup.

  14. @Nestor: Chisame has always been the female Kyon. This should have been apparent at least since the time she accompanied them to Wales…
