Vol. 30 Q&A

Filed under: Updates — CanonRap @ 3:57 pm

Took a while for me to get this… anyway, due to tons of free time, I’ll do the whole thing.

(Text in italics is personal comment, feel free to ignore.)

EDIT: Fixed Tsukuyomi’s part. Misread the grammar.

EDIT2: Fixed Kataragi’s part. Must’ve fell asleep halfway through this -_-;;

(EDIT3: The new Q&A page can be found here.)

That’s it for the questions. Still no lexicon entries, though Collet did get her one-off spell’s name in Latin, as mentioned:

Lapis Niger

(I can’t think of a better translation than “Black Rock Shooter”. The Latin doesn’t have that implication, but ‘tsubute’ is literally ‘thrown rock’, and just “Black Thrown Rock” is just odd.)

Still haven’t found any other changes of this sort – I’ll be looking at the Research Institute, I guess.

Well, that’s another volume.

  1. >The tone of Albireo’s hair is darker in the flashback chapters, was this intentional?
    >Well spotted, and yes, it was intentional.

    ….I really gotta wonder, just who notices stuff like that?

    >Does Theo like Rakan?
    >She does, and probably wants to marry him, but since Rakan treats her like a child, it can’t be helped.

    Awww, poor tomboy princess 😦

  2. Seems like Ken gave a very intelligent answer to the question i sent (the one which was printed in English). I tried to make the question in such a way that we would get a good answer out of it but seems like i failed at it (since we didn’t learn anything new from it).

  3. Excellent work. I laughed at your puzzlement over some of the questions, CanonRap, as this seems pretty typical for Japanese fans (possibly Western ones too). As I’ve gathered information from Kajishima-sensei about the canon Tenchi Muyo! stuff, I’m amazed at some of the irrelevant questions he’d be asked. Heck, even in “101” (the first Q&A book he did before the release of OVA 2), people were asking silly things like the magazines under Tenchi’s bed.

    @SL — I’m stunned that an English question was actually published but well done on sending it at all. Generally, I’ve been told that the Japanese aren’t keen on stuff sent to them in non-Japanese (understandable) but I guess Akamatsu-sensei either has a translator or knows English. Either way, well done.

    As to the answer, I know where you were going and it is possible that Akamatsu-sensei is being a bit cagey there.

  4. @ AstroNerdBoy: I think the reason for which my question was selected might have been related to the country i live.
    Also i actually sent 12 questions in total, out of which i got the direct answer for one, and got answer for 2 others in indirect method which were answered through other peoples questions (“relation between Nekane & Negi” & “Mei’s Master name” questions).

  5. This has been one of the best Q&A’s as far as I’m concerned. We finally have confirmation that Nitta-sensei is the same from “A.I. Love You,” which we’ve all suspected but it is nice to get that final confirmation. I think many of us suspected that Takane had a pactio with Mei but she that she also has a pactio with Nutmeg as well is a bit of a surprise to me in some regards. It also goes to show that she’s no slouch in the magic department.

    The Nekane-Negi question makes me laugh because thanks to Del Rey’s early adaptation which made them appear to be brother-sister, after which there was something about them being cousins.

  7. I need to get this. Volume 29 came in the mail a couple weeks ago for me, but right now I’m a poor student and that money would be better spent on things I actually need, especially since I ordered Fate/Extra 😐

  8. @Cube: Yep, poor Theo…

    @SL: I’m surprised Akamatsu answered that one at all. I assumed that it would be have significance later, so that he wouldn’t mention anything about it too early. Then again, his reply was basically repeating what we know. ^^;;

    @ANB: Yeah, I was going “wut” at a few of the questions about the really, really minor characters.

    @mewarmo: I’ll consider that ^^;;

    Speaking of TM, where is Mahoyo…?

  9. >These last two questions were kinda a “Wha?” moment for me.

    IIRC adult and kid pairs from pair competition and then Mahora War Game (both males knocked out by females after strip-beaming.

  10. >What did Ninomiya-sensei do during her student days? (Wait, who??)

    Not sure there – but Makie teacher?

    Comment by al103 — June 8, 2010 @ 2:21 pm

  11. al103 is correct with the competition pairs.
    Ninomiya-sensei IS Makie’s teacher.

  12. >Is there any relation between Negi’s ‘Magia Erebea Patterns’ & Chao’s ‘Spell Patterns’ which is on their body?
    >As a matter of fact, there is. Both are techniques which lead to one’s own destruction if overused.

    Did the question really used the word “relation”? the answer implies that the question is “similarity”, since he didn’t point out the connection between both spells. Or perhaps Akamatsu was just dodging the answer?

  13. In the question about Chiko☆Tan’s transformation, I obviously get the giant monkey/Dragonball reference, but what could the “polite way of speaking” reference suggest?

    Comment by quigonkenny — June 9, 2010 @ 1:50 pm

  14. @ Nestor: I really used the word “relation” in that question. Here is a pic of that question which was printed on the volume (thanks to Hata who found it).

    But Ken seem to have answered the question in terms of “similarity”, so that he didn’t reveal a lot of info by answering the question directly.
